Summary:
During the last years, the number of foreign pupils studying at Greek schools has been increasing at an increasing rate and this issue is of a particular concern for the local society. Most recently, due to the wave of immigrants arriving at our country, it’s imperative that we address the issue of the healthy incorporation of immigrant children within the Greek school environment. The institution of Reception Classes can help towards this direction. The matter in question hasn’t explored in depth, according to previous research. This thesis aims at examining the various views of the school counselors regarding to the effectiveness of Reception Classes. The research sample consists of six school counselors working in Thessaloniki prefecture and the material was collected via semi- structured interviews. According to the findings, the responses of the counselors questioned indicate some difficulties that affect many aspects and obstructs the operation of the institution. All counselors claimed that a series of changes that will improve the situation is necessary, the main objective of which should be the better performance of the foreign students.
