The professional development of educators from co-operative practices in professional learning: the case of private schools of secondary education of Attica
Summary:
Modern international developments in education signify a change in the "educational paradigm" in the field of education. The predominant subject of educational change is not only the educator, who is understood as an active member of an educational community but also the school organization itself, which is gradually transforming into a professional learning community. The need for continuing professional development is dictated by the demands of an evolving and demanding knowledge society, and the updating and renewal of cognitive and teacher competencies are deemed necessary. The development of in-school collaborative practices serves the needs of both the organized learning community and the evolving teacher. The school manager / leader is required to respond to these new conditions and to transform the school organization into a professional learning community for all, trainers and trainees.
