Summary:
This paper examines the concept of Gesamtkunstwerk, a totally unified artwork, that was introduced by the composer, and by which, the ancient greek methods of the main creator ( where the playwright, serves, simultaneously as a musical dramatist, a choreographer, as well as the one who is responsible for the building of the set and so on). Moreover, not only the reconnection of the opera with its roots -according to the points of view and techniques mentioned in the paper- but also the juncture of epic and lyric poetry elements, are further examined, in a manner of constant musical narration, which ultimately is a chant-like delivery which was considered uniquely accordant for the musical expression of (also ancient greek) poetical/dramatical myths, and by which, several ancient themed operas of the 20th century are derived.
