Summary:
This master’s thesis attempts to record the history and the action of the cooperative theatre troupes of the Organization of cooperative theatre troupes (OETH)- member of the Hellenic Actors' Union (SEI)- from the theatrical period 1990-’91 to 1995-’96. The research began with a detailed record of the theatrical programs of the surviving performances, followed by the search for relevant publications in the daily and periodical Greek press. Finally, in-depth investigations were made of the available archives of OETH, as well as the available personal records of contributors. At the beginning of each theatrical period, a brief review is presented, referring to events that were considered useful for the period under review and for the purposes of this paper. Τhe cooperative theatre troupes are presented in alphabetical order, including elements of the performance selected for the respective period, the critics, the actors, as well as the tour (where it is recorded for the summer performances). This paper closes with the presentation of the available photographic material, including photographs of the actors, costumes, scenery models, program covers and posters of the performances.
This paper records the disposal of OETH to open his "doors" in every troupe that is governed by the idea of co-operative. The Organization is adding, freely, troupes that bring theatrical proposals either from the Greek or from the International Dramaturgy. It supports cooperative theatre troupes in order to offer quality theater with social and other effect messages to the major urban centers but also to the province of Greece. In addition there are troupes of the Organization that traveled outside the Greek borders, with the most frequent destination the country of Cyprus. Also noteworthy is the participation of the cooperative theatre troupes of OETH in important cultural festivals where important artistic forms have taken place. The purpose of the action of the cooperative theatre troupes of OETH is clearly of a spiritual and artistic nature and in no way profitable. So unleashed by the trades of the individual entrepreneur and the anxiety of survival through the "commercial success", the members of the troupes that belong to OETH managed to offer a theatrical repertoire, in some cases original, aiming at getting acquainted the audience with writers and plays that so-called "commercial theatre companies" do not dare to show up, and amateurs do not have, in many cases, either the knowledge or the experience. In this important effort of OETH’s cooperative theatre troupes, important leading actors and coefficients of Greek theater production participate, creating a new situation in the theatrical space, while at the same time we meet the emergence of new artists who will participate with their action - even years after the collaboration with OETH – at the most important theatrical activities of the country for years to come. In conclusion, we could mention that Organization of cooperative theatre troupes (OETH) -member of the Hellenic Actors' Union (SEI)- and the cooperative theatre troupes that he supported through the theatrical periods 1990-’91 and up to 1995-’96 are an interesting, succinct example of the important action and history of the cooperative theatre troupes that the Organization has to show in his overall very interesting and long-lasting course.
