Summary:
The subject of the present study is group insurance, which is a contract shaped to a considerable extent by private will and business habit. For starters, the study examines the function and the formation of group insurance from the participants’ point of view, with parallel comparative references to the individual insurance contract. Furthermore, the special forms that group insurance can take depending on the risk covered and the beneficiary of indemnity are analytically presented and, also, the consequences of the group nature of the insurance for the insurer, namely the influence of the group in calculating the premium and the sum insured, are examined. Additionally, in a specific chapter, the group contracts provided for in the insurance supervisory legislation are presented, which lack the crucial and necessary element of each insurance contract, the risk. Then, in separate chapters, there are mentioned and analyzed a. the newly created in Greek legal practice Group Bankassurance contract and b. the employee insurance contract by the employer, which is the most common case of group insurance in practice. Finally, a brief reference is made to the three pillars of insurance with an inherent element of the majority of people as they are found in Greek law and are strongly encouraged by European law.
