Summary:
In this study, the author presents a critical survey of the legislative framework in the field of trafficking in persons, where it has been observed a particular mobility during the last years both in Greece and internationally. In the first part of this study, the author observes, the conceptual crime’s delimitation of trafficking in persons, as well as the inextricable link between the cross-border nature of this crime and the organized criminal activity. Furthermore, the author states the modern forms of trafficking in persons, simultaneously with the most important factors and root causes, which lead to the uninterrupted development and increase of the phenomenon. Moreover, it is analysed the international and European movements to confront trafficking in persons and a brief reference to the relevant Greek legislative framework is to be pinpointed. The second part of this study includes an empirical approach to the phenomenon of trafficking in persons and the criminal research, which take place through the quantitative method of the international dimensions of this situation. Finally, the author presents and examines the statistical data relevant to the victims’ protection in the context of Greek reality, based on the official police crime statistics.
