Automatic Argument Extraction from Natural Language Texts using R Studio computing tools
Summary:
The scope of this thesis is to study the methods of automatic extraction of arguments from large collections of digital texts (corpora) and the implementation of text analysis techniques in order to highlight the use of argument in the formation of public discourse. We study the main argument theories and the state of the art in argument mining. Our technique aims at the automatic recognition of arguments through the implementation of lexical indicators and the extraction of argumentative units using text mining tools from R Studio. For our experiments we used a sample of editorials from five newspapers and a sample of texts from the Hellenic Parliament Proceedings. Our goal was the initiation of a basis for further research and analysis concerning the use of argument and most importantly, the way arguments are shaped and implemented in public discourse.
