Τhe pedagogical exploitation of children's cinema in education
Summary:
The aim of this paper is to investigate the importance of the pedagogical exploitation of children's cinema in education, more specifically in primary education and especially in elementary school. The study was initially performed on a theoretical level through a review of the relevant literature. Subsequently, research was conducted in order to investigate the type of activities considered appropriate to motivate students and gradually convert them from passive viewers/receivers/consumers to active viewers and, finally, to producers of a short film. Also, a possible change in the attitude and behavior of students was explored after the implementation of this teaching scenario. The conclusion is that the role of film literacy, which cinema is supposed to realize as "another" means of content delivery, can contribute to a more realistic intake of reality as well as to a social intelligence by integrating the knowledge and information of young viewers with the experiences of the world outside of it.
