Όψεις του Βρετανικού Περιηγητισμού στις αρχές του 19ου αιώνα. Οι Νεότεροι Έλληνες από την οπτική του Henry Holland.
Translated title:
Views of British Travelling in the early 19th century. Henry Holland's perspective of Modern Greeks.
Summary:
This paper examines the complex aspects of British travelling in the Greek space at the beginning of the 19th century. The phenomenon of British travelling in Greece is studied via the view of a young British traveller, Sir Henry Holland, as it was depicted in his book on his travells in Greece. In particular, it focuses on the way the young traveller understood the economic, social and intellectual situation of the Modern Greeks in the Ottoman Empire and the question of their independence, as it had already begun to emerge in the European public opinion and reflected in other travel texts of the period.
