Social enterprises's impact on confronting social exclusion of vulnerable groups
Summary:
The current dissertation examines a specific family of organizations of social economy entitled Social Cooperative Enterprises (S.C.En.) of Work Integration in Greece. The peculiarity of these organizations, in contrast with all the others of the so-called “Third System”, is that they aim to integrate vulnerable groups of people back into employability and society, through productive activity. More specifically, the attempt to analyze these forms does not indicate that they are efficient political tools towards the confrontation of the problem of exclusion from the labor market. On the contrary, the research project aims to investigate the impact of these enterprises on confronting work related exclusion.
For this purpose, ten interviews with people that are engaged in or/and work for the S.C.En. were conducted in the county of Athens. More precisely, six interviews were conducted with administrative staff and four with beneficiaries-employees of these social enterprises. The findings of the empirical part show that the vast majority of these structures offer unqualified, part-time and low-paid employment opportunities.
