Summary:
This thesis deals with the study and the specification of criteria for the selection of visual and literary works of art, suitable for their use in the context of the method of "Transformative Learning through the aesthetic experience" by A. Kokkos. At the same time, it aims at exploring the perceptions of adult educators who work at Public Institutes of Vocational Training, on issues related to the use of art in the educational process. Finally, it is investigated if the educators apply a specific method during the teaching process.
The theoretical framework of work incorporates the views of important and remarkable theoreticians, philosophers and adult educators on the use of fine art in the educational context. Contact with art promotes the cultivation of man's creativity, but also the development of his critical reflection with the aim of transforming his dysfunctional and stereotypical perceptions. This literature research reveals the need to use quality artworks in education, as the effectiveness of A. Kokkos method is due to/ results from/depends on the contact of the receiver with the quality of art. For this reason, taking into account the element of the adult trainers' subjectivity regarding the selection of suitable artworks, it was necessary to identify and clarify specific criteria for the selection of works of art.
In conclusion, the findings of the survey conducted on a sample of adult trainers revealed the need to re-educate them on issues related to the use of the “great” art in the teaching context. In addition, it was confirmed that trainers need complementary training to apply a specialized technique based on art. Finally, the familiarity with the appropriate criteria for choosing works of art in education is considered necessary.
