Crisis 1929, Crisis 2008: Models of Production of thought patterns that occur during crises
Summary:
Financial crises, as well as how the political systems deal with them are one of the major issues of political analysis in modern times. The bibliography so far has addressed extensively both the content and the reasons for the creation of a financial crisis, and the cost of the political decisions that are made during a crisis and the relation of those decisions to the dominant capitalistic economic model. This paper attempts to highlight the issue of the process that precedes the important economic decisions taken by politicians, but also to present some models of thought patterns that influence political decisions. Firstly, it is noted that the financial system holds a prominent role in the capitalist system, since it has enabled capitalists to generate enormous profits without involving the workforce. Roosevelt tried hard to regulate this system, although often his policy was the result of an internal balance. The main finding about his policy was that in order to create a sense of trust in himself by the public, he followed a thought pattern that contained him talking and acting about the financial crisis at the level of public discourse, as the country was facing a war situation, something that is obvious both in his speeches in the Congress and in the public. Obama pursued a much more conservative policy, supporting and fueling the financial system, giving prominence importance to factors that were not directly related to improving the working conditions of the population, as well as representing social demands such as health care for all and equal rights for blacks and Muslims, demands that are very important for a progressive society, but do not interfere with the real economical problems that USA were facing. The most common characteristic of both crisis was that in order to deal with the financial crisis, the American war industry had to be funded.
Overall, it is understandable that conditions and stronger interests are those that greatly influence the perception of crisis policies, but also how they create models of thinking about it.
