Collaborative construction of storytelling and digital storytelling by high school students.
The aim of the current project is to perform a study in relation to the traditional and
digital storytelling. Four students from a Lyceum of Athens were involved in the study.
They were split into two groups and each group had to create a story focused on
school bullying by using different tools from the other group. More precisely, the first
group used pen and paper, whereas the second group made use of the digital tool
StoryBoardThat. The research intervention was held in three consecutive stages; the
pre-registration stage where the students worked on the content of the story, the
registration stage where they created the story and finally, the post-registration stage
where each group presented their work to the other. The first stage took place in
asynchronous environment by using the educational platform Edmodo. Given the
research questions, it was explored how their communication during the pre-registration
stage affected the next step of the actual registration. Moreover, aspects
related to design issues as well as differences during their communication and
presentations were also studied. Overall, significant differences between the two
groups were observed among all three stages of the study. Provided the specific
results, suggestions for potential research studies are proposed.
