Summary:
The present thesis entitled “The Teaching on the Holy Trinity in the Work "De Trinitate" of st. Augustine”, presents the teaching on the Holy Trinity of st. Augustine systematically and thematologically. The problems that engage st. Augustine regard the difference between the meanings of Essence and Person with reference to the Triadic God and the difference between the Generation of the Son and the Procession of the Holy Spirit from the Father. These problems arrise from the inability of St. Augustine to discern between the divine essence and divine energy, a discernment which can be found in the equivalent theology of the Eatern Greek Fathers. The structure of this thesis follows the gnosiological direction of st. Augustine’s thought, which refers to the analysis and discernment of the various divine names, drawn from Holy Scripture, the patristic tradition and human cognicense.
