Protection of cultural heritage in the context of international criminal justice as a means of geopolitical impact with an emphasis on the wider Middle East
Summary:
In the last decade there has been a strong activity of the Islamic State in the Greater Middle East region with strategic planning and objectives that deviate from the usual practices of armed conflicts. ISIS fighters, in addition to the abusive acts against conquering population groups, are also committing disasters and looting of cultural heritage sites, some of them protected by UNESCO. At the same time, the global community is trying to halt, through judgments of the judiciary which it has, these acts, which are a blow to international security and geopolitical equilibrium.
Napoleon said that knowing one's geography is like knowing his foreign policy. According to Brzezinski, the way we understand the importance of political geography must be adapted to the new realities of political power. We will analyze our subject through systemic geopolitical analysis, which according to the definition of my teacher Ioannis Th. Mazis, a geopolitical analysis of a geographic system of inequalities of power distribution, is called the geographic method which studies, describes and predicts behaviors and the impact of relations between opposing and distinct political redeployment policies and the ideological metaphysics that cover them, within the geographical complexes that these policies apply.
