Witness Protection Issues in the Field of Organized Crime
Summary:
The main objective of this thesis is to provide knowledge about the adjustment of witness protection programs in criminal proceedings involving organized crime, where the measures were initially applied. This work, based on international conventions and the greek legislation, attempts to shed light on the available practices for the protection of witnesses over time. Comparative data are given about both national legislation and international standards. The witness protection programs are also discussed in relation to the conclusions of the relevant case law of the European Court of Human Rights. This way, we are faced with the dilemma of choosing between the witness safety or the rights of the defense.
