Summary:
This diploma thesis was conducted within the framework of the Postgraduate Program "Strategies for Management of Environment, Disasters and Crises" of the School of Sciences, of the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. The subject of the thesis is a research approach to the integration of the refugee population in Greece into the education system and includes a presentation and analysis of the methods applied in Greece as well as a comparative reference to the Norwegian integration system. The first chapter refers to the refugee issue as a whole and how it was dealt with by both countries, Greece and Norway. The next chapter includes the approach of Interculturality and the right of children to Education. Reference is made to the cultural diversity of the European continent, the institutional framework of Greece and Norway, and the main principles, objectives and goals of intercultural education as well as the role of the trainer. The third chapter focuses on integrating refugee children into the education system with reference to good practices and points that need to be improved. Finally, the fourth chapter focuses on the conclusions that have been generated and the proposals to improve and ensure the best possible results.
The implementation of this diploma thesis is mainly based on research in Greek and foreign literature on the definition of concepts, such as integration into the education system and the relevant legislation that governs it, implementation difficulties, etc. The search for information on the Internet and on the websites of the educational institutions were the most important method of collecting the data presenting the present work to analyze the content of the methods used in Greece and the comparative reference to the Norwegian system.
