The European Union's crisis management mechanisms and the role of the Armed Forces
Summary:
All kinds of disasters have always constituted destabilizing parameters of social structures that caused a variety of dysfunctions. Nowadays, their incidence is rising rapidly, due to the significant changes taking place at each level. (social, political, economic, climatic). The aim of this diploma thesis is to present a thorough presentation of the European Union (EU) crisis management mechanisms, as well as the contribution of the European Armed Forces in this direction.
In order to achieve this goal, an initial analysis of key concepts (disaster, crisis, etc.) and the feasibility of an effective crisis management framework will be undertaken. Then, after referring to the EU institutions and their role, an in-depth crisis management study at EU level (institutional framework, structure, operation of mechanisms, sources of funding) will be undertaken. With regard to the European Armed Forces, their role and their contribution to date will be highlighted, as it is commonly accepted that, owing to their operational capabilities, they are a pillar in the effective management of all kinds of crises.
Based on the above, we will come up with some useful conclusions on the EU's momentum in crisis management. The methodology for writing the diploma thesis will be based on the study-analysis of the international bibliography, as well as the official institutional texts of the EU.
