The role of the local government in the institutionalization of social structures for people who are poor or are threatened by poverty due to the economic crisis of the country. Case study of the municipality of Zografou

The wider socioeconomic changes which have taken place over the last years to the greek society, as a result of the domestic economic crisis, have had a great impact on its economy and society and have led to an increase in the number of the socially vulnerable groups of the population, namely people who have limited or no access to social and public goods and have difficulty or incapability of having in many ways a quality of life such as housing, work, a satisfactory income, education, medical care and social insurance.
Nowadays the Greek society is called upon to face major challenges in order to aid these vulnerable social groups and maintain the cohesiveness of its social unit. The local government has been shown as one of the most important carriers of support of the vulnerable social groups, by providing a safety net, with the implementation of activities within the framework of the social policy and a series of responsibilities of a social character through social structures, which they create to this end, on a local level, for the fight of poverty and social exclusion.
The object of this thesis is the role of the local government in the institutionalization of social structures for people who are poor or are threatened by poverty, due to the economic crisis of the country and its goal is the gleaning and recording of valid data, through research with quantitative analysis methodology with questionnaires given to those benefitted from the social structures of the municipality of Zografou, for the documentation of the effectiveness of those structures.
