Summary:
The purpose of the present dissertation is to analyse in a clear and coherent manner the connection between the forest environment and energy, under the spectrum of the establishment of electricity production units from sources of renewable energy (RES) in afforested areas.
Therefore, the crucial role the RES are expected to play in the constantly transforming geopolitical energy map is presented, along with the special significance of the forest environment, with the fundamental pillars of its special legal protection as point of reference. The main focus of the study is to provide commentaries on the Council of State decision 2499/2012 which examines the question of the legality of establishment of wind farms in afforested areas. Finally, a discussion takes place on the imperative regulation of the legally protected right of the forest environment and energy, under the light of the concept of sustainability, and the final conclusions of the study are being extracted.
