The social work, the function and the social – historical origins of children's camp structures: Case study of the children's camps “Happy Children – Happy Youth”
Summary:
This present work is the study of the social work, the function and the social – historical origins of children's camp structures at an international and national level. To begin with, the subject of this work is to record the history of children's camps, their ''birth'' and development in the international arena, hence and therefore in Greece. Then, comes the study of the way children's camps operate according to the provisions of law, as well as the social and educational work are provided. In the second part of the thesis the case of “Happy Children – Happy Youth” is studied, a volunteer, non – governmental, non – profit organization of great history and significant social work, founded by the priest, George Pyroynakis in 1929, which continues to exist to this day. The child, intergrated into the social and economic conditions of each era, is a vector of elements of social dimension and social changes. The child is the present and the future of every society. The influences that the child receives are continuous, since every environment that hosts the child, apart from the family, is a “conductor” of socialization and a ''tool'' for the formation of their personality and behavior. The camp can serve as a “tool” that contributes to the child's physical, spiritual, emotional and social development. The camp, depending on the social circumstances can provide the child with life qualifications. The camp is a mimiature of society, made only for children, ideal and utopian, it is centered around great values and great ideas and deserves to be further studied by the social sciences.
