The definition of personal data
Summary:
This thesis attempts to analyze the concept of personal data and its categories, especially on the basis of their distinction in simple and sensitive. Under the first chapter, we will examine their protection at constitutional, EU and international level, and then we will focus on the distinction between the term of personal data and that of privacy, the etymology of the term and the reason why it was finally chosen. Then, we will proceed to a review of the definitions that have been formulated for them in various pieces of legislation and the analysis of their basic components. Thereafter, reference will be made to controversial and non-case-sensitive data and the chapter will be completed by presenting the category of web data.

The second chapter will focus on the distinction between simple and sensitive personal data. Initially, the general theory on sensitive data will be presented and then criticism about the categorization followed and the closed number of sensitive data will be developed. Then, the analysis of the categories of personal data included in the list of sensitive ones will follow, accompanied by a critical view of the reason of their inclusion in them.
