Summary:
This assignment, given the prominent role that Information Technology has in people’s everyday life especially during the 21st century, tries to study the dynamic nature of the Information Systems utilized in hospitals with a special focus in Human Resources management and all those parameters that can lead to a successful adaptation and implementation of new technologies in hospitals. Following the latest technological developments in the healthcare sector, Health Information Systems create information infrastructures that will be able to fully cover the user needs.
By examining the history and overall development of Human Resources Management and the information systems used on a global scale in order to redesign the workflows, in the present assignment we design and create the “Web application management of two-way hospital human resources”.
The focus is on the challenges faced when trying to electronically gather and safe keep employees’ records by Hospital Units and to avoid loss of personal and professional data. It offers the ability to search, delete and insert employee’s profiles, to preview and request weekly shifts schedule, and to insert and update requests regarding any issue towards the Personnel Office of the hospital at unit level.
The access on all the above functions depends on employees’ clearance to insure data security and confidentiality. The scope of this application is twofold since it is addressed to not only to the employees working to the hospitals’ register but also to all hospital employees and this is what constitutes this application as original and innovative. Substantial weight was placed on designing the application as user friendly as possible for both the users and the administrators and as safe as possible by utilizing the latest developments in Information Technology. Hospital staff has limited access compared to the administrators to insure data security and confidentiality. The aim of the application is to contribute in better time and human resources management (human/intellectual and materials) and also in the upgrade of the role of hospital’s administrative services.
The target of developing and immediately implementing the application is to support both institutional and organizational interventions and reforms in order to implement Information Technology Systems on the Health Care Sector. It also indirectly aims at upgrading the quality of the services offered, restructuring internal processes and ultimately to contribute at maximizing services offered and the implementation of new, up to date organizational structures.
Finally, with the present assignment we propose an enterprise human resource planning system that can be potentially applied Greek hospitals around the country.
