The notion of life in modern virtue ethics (Human life as a whole)
Summary:
The primary purpose of this thesis is the theoretical approach of the notion of life as a whole. The thesis is, in essence, a philosophical argument, according to which human life is not a mere sum, aggregate and compilation of separate actions and is not identical to a cumulative series and sequence of unconnected episodes. Morality should not focus on the notion of action, as a single deed, but we need a morality, which has, as its central point of interest, the character of the acting person, examining the meaning and the purpose of life as a unity. The philosophical approaches to life of Alasdair MacIntyre and Alexander Nehamas in their works "After Virtue" and "Nietzsche: Life as Literature", respectively, formed the theoretical background of the argument in question.
