Surrogacy under Private International Law

This study examines the regime of surrogacy under PIL.
The aim of the present work is to analyze the relations and the personal status issues arising within surrogacy, under a private international , national and European law perspective. Considering the various aspects and forms that surrogacy appears not only in Greece and other European countries but globally too, cross-border surrogacy problems will be examined as well. Kinship, parent-child relationships, citizenship, recognition of personal status from one State to another are some of the issues that are analyzed. The aforementioned recognition will be considered as a new way and method of resolving issues arising within international surrogacy, but there will not be critical development at this point. Last but not least, the European perspective of (cross-border) surrogacy, as well as the impact of human rights as outlined in the case law of the ECtHR, are also being considered.
