Summary:
The general theme of the present work is correctional education, noting its purpose and specific aims. In addition, this research attempts to examine the effectiveness of this specific education, with regard to the individuals involved. Through the study on international studies conducted over the span of the last century, arises the need for the establishment of an educational system focused on the social reintegration of the imprisoned individual. This goal, according to many theorists and scientists, requires a person's empowerment in order to gain the strength and confidence necessary to ensure a smooth reintegration into society. The training proposed in the present study is related to an education that includes theories, which attempt the transformation and empowerment of the trainee. More specifically, it attempts to design an educational program with the above aim, based on the theory of adult education and particularly on transformative learning. The training program is organized so as to seek the change of the prisoner’s mindset, which impedes the continuation of the person's life following release. This need is raised due to the lack of such programs in Greece, in combination with the weaknesses of prisoners attempting to reintegrate into society.
