Impact of climate change on health and environment. Latest developments.
Summary:
Climate change is a major threat to our health. Exposure to health threats associated to climate change affects different people, in different ways in each community and in different degree. Changes in greenhouse air concentrations due to human activities are one of the main reasons for changing global climate with numerous vulnerabilities for our health. The environmental consequences of climate change, such as extreme heat waves, rising sea levels, changes in rainfalls that result in flouds and droughts, severe hurricanes and degraded air quality, affect human health physically, socially and psychologically, directly and indirectly. Some onerous health threats can be minimized or avoided by using proper mitigation strategies (actions to reduce greenhouse emissions for example) and adaptation strategies (actions taken to reduce exposure), so as to prevent impact on our health while protecting the environment and health of future generations.
