Summary:
This Diplomatic Thesis attempts to provide a complete and meaningful presentation of the Delirium Syndrome. In particular, it focuses on current preventive and therapeutic measures and additional practical information applicable to the conditions regulating hospitals today.
The first part of this Thesis provides a throrough and extended clinical presentation of the Delirium. This was considered essential, as this syndrome is often ignored, and as a result, overlooked by specialists.
The second part presents the justified beneficial pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical prevention recommendations
The third part presents the internationally accepted therapeutical guidelines, which are considered effective and supported by relevant evidence, and are being followed widely, even though, due to methodological limitations, no thorough scientific research concerning delirium therapy has been made posible.
Additionally, a separate part of this Thesis is devoted to the presentation of the treatment of Delirium due to Alcohol and Benzodiazepine Withdrawal.
