Summary:
This study aims to report the trends in prescribing anti-osteoporotic medication in Greek postmenopausal women patients. We furthermore assessed medication discontinuation and switching patterns and noted factors associated with the above. Compliance with osteoporosis medication of patients was also examined, as well as the side effects and duration of treatment. This is a first approach to represent data from Greek context in real-world clinical practice. During the study period, the osteoporosis management has undergone various updates. Apart from changes in the diagnostic criteria of osteoporosis itself and fracture risk assessment strategies, modifications in the available pharmacological treatment happened including restrictions and new indications of use for existing antiosteoporostic drugs, as well as the introduction of new drug in the market.
