Summary:
The reopening of ERT on June 11, 2015 from the SYRIZA-ANEL co-operation, following a sudden shut down of its operation by the ND-PASOK-DIMAR co-operation two years earlier, is a fact that is a subject of debate up to now, creating tensions. On the one hand, the SYRIZA-ANEL co-operation argues that the reopening of ERT is a symbol of democracy and pluralism, while on the other hand the opposition characterizes public service broadcasting as the government’s mouthpiece. In view of the above, this master’s thesis attempts to study whether and to what extent the media differ in their attitudes towards ERT, taking into account the political area they belong to.
The first three chapters are devoted to the theoretical context of this master’s thesis. More specifically, we refer to the theoretical approaches we used in our research and then we make a historical review of the history of public broadcasting in Europe. We close the theoretical part with the ERT historical review, while attempting to make an assessment of whether and to what extent it served its role and what its relations with the respective government were.
The last 3 chapters are devoted to the field of diplomatic research. More specifically, we quote the research questions, which are then answered with the results presented in the form of diagrams. Finally, we try to draw conclusions from the research, interpreting the results we have set in conducting the research.
