Comparative study among nurses of cardiology department, cardiology intensive care unit, emergency and anaestesiology department and intern cardiologists in the knowledge of medication about cardiac arrest and during cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Summary:
After reviewing the international bibliography we notice that there is an increased interest of the scientific community in the record and estimation of the level of knowledge of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) among the health care professionals. This interest is explained through the frequency of occurrences of cardiac arrest (CA) as a significant cause of death. The findings of the studies that were presented in the previous unit display a lack of knowledge among the health care professionals regarding CPR in general, in some cases also a low sensitivity concerning CPR and a small percentage of attendance in training seminars, which, as it turns out, have a significant and positive impact on the knowledge of CPR.
STUDY ΑΙΜ
The enquiry in the knowledge of interns, nurses and assistants of nurses, concerning the use of medication about CA and during CPR.
MATERIAL & METHOD
The research was conducted in an area in Attica, in four big tertiary hospitals and in large official educational centre of resuscitation.
In total, in the research there were 256 health care professionals, nurses and doctors, men and women who work in different sectors such as cardiology department, cardiology intensive care unit, emergency and anesthesiology department. The participants were asked to respond to 14 questions of knowledge regarding the medicines which are provided to different cases of patients in CA and about the cases of CA.
For the statistical analysis the statistic packet SPSS 100 was used and the influence of the various independent variables was realized through trials t-test and the analysis of One Way Anova. The statistical difference was defined with P<0.005.

RESULTS
There was no statistically important influence of the sex on the total score of the questionnaire (P<0.005). It was noticed, though, that there was statistically important difference of the influence of age on the total score of the questionnaire (P=0.026). In addition, there is statistically important difference in the total scores among the age groups <30 years of age and 41-50 and, more specifically, the professionals aged 41-50 respond more correctly than the professionals who are at an age younger or equal to 30 years old (P=0.025).
There is also a statistically significant difference in the total score of the questionnaire among the doctors and nurses, with the doctors presenting higher scores, that is more correct responses (P<0.005). The influence of the degrees of studies on the total score is statistically important (P=0.011). The influence of the years of previous experience on the total score of responses is statistically important (P=0.033), while it comes out that there is a statistically important influence of the attendance of seminars of advanced life support on the total score (P<0.01).

CONCLUSIONS
In conclusion, we notice a lack of knowledge concerning the medication in the cases of CPR among the total number of the health care professionals. The sex and the sector of occupation do not actually play an important role in the knowledge of CPR while the age and the years of previous experience play a positive role in the knowledge of medicines of CPR, so the education through seminars and continuous training and learning has a positive influence on the knowledge of CPR.
