Humour and politics: The humor production mechanisms through Greek political cartoons and their interpretation by the public
Summary:
With the "weapons" of visual metaphor, humor and satire, the political cartoon renders meaning, conveys concentrated messages and causes instant feelings to the public. It is a history record that can be interpreted as the mirror of modern cultural behaviors and values and helps to record common beliefs. In this paper I try to approach and analyze how the public interprets Greek political cartoons, based on a sample of cartoons, works of well-known Greek artists that have recently been published in newspapers and on the Internet. Their analysis is done both by me, by the method of textual analysis as well as by interviewees, based on audience theory.
