Teaching Physics through the manuals of the period between 1933-1969
Summary:
The purpose of this study is to advance understanding of the context and ideology of the teaching manuals that were used between 1933 and 1969 for the subject of Physics. The aim is to illustrate the teaching methods and the circumstances under which Physics was taught in the final grade of Elementary School. In order to do that, the school manuals corresponding to that particular period, as well as detailed course catalogs, were used. At the same time, scientific literature was exploited to derive the necessary data that can imprint the historical, political, social and scientific climate of that time, based on which we get a better understanding not only of the writing and approval of those manuals but also of the practical use of them during actual teaching.
