Folk etymologies and ideology: examination of folk etymologies, seen as part of ideology of Modern Greek as a regime language
Summary:
I aim at examining a large amount of folk etymologies, maintained by the pseudo-science. It will be indicated that these folk etymologies are part of hellenocentric "linguistic" narratives in Greece. More specifically, folk etymologies will be examined as a part of ideology of Modern Greek as a regime language, because this conceptual model is dominant in Greece. According to this model, every language has a homogenous Interior and a menacing Exterior, which corrupts the substance of the Interior. It is imperative that this paper be written, because these non-linguistic perspectives have been diffused. The society in Greece regards these hellenocentric perspectives as correct.
