Summary:
The current diploma thesis was furnished within the framework of the master program in “Comparative Pedagogy, Education Policy and Management of Education” of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, with the title of “Policies “from education to employment” for the graduates of higher education in the European Union in the last 10 years". It’s a bibliographic study in which, the main tools of key elements components were the European Commissions’ and European Unions’ Institutions, such as CEDEFOP and the official records related with the Declaration of the Union. Moreover studies of the OECD, EUROSTAT, and companies like Mckinsey&co and Greek companies that have to do with the labor market (SEV and ΙΟΒΕ) were of high importance for the completion of this paper. Finally, reference has to be made to the great wealth of information extracted from the web sites of Greek ministry of education and the Member States of the Union, as well as the Eurydice.
Structural, this study is separated in two parts, the first of whom copes with in the labor market in the European Union and the educational policy that the Community follows. Concretely, discussion is made about the prevailed situation of employment in the European Union, the relation between the sides of supply and demand, and how this is connected with the job market, the education policy within the Community and, finally, the level of skills of European young people through the PIAAC survey.
At the second part of this paper, we cope with the transition from education to labor market, where reference is made at the program of “Education and Training 2020”. We also give a variety of examples of good practices from the Members States of the Union and the international community, whereas we shed light at the Greek example linking education with labor market and determing whether this is achieved or not.
In conclusion, the research led to shading the general situation that prevails in the sector of employment and education both at the European Union and Greece , while at the same time we conducted results with regard to the way that we should properly match these two systems, so that a smooth passage from one to another can be achieved.
