Loneliness and rejection sensitivity that students with learning difficulties feel
Summary:
Τhis research focused on exploring if there is any correlation between feelings of loneliness and social dissatisfaction and the feeling of rejection sensitivity in children with and without learning disabilities. The sample of the research was a total of 156 students who attended the fourth, fifth and sixth grade of elementary school. From the above total, 75 students had learning difficulties and the rest 81 were the control team. The instruments used for the data collection were the ΄΄Loneliness and Dissatisfaction Scale΄΄ (translation: Galanaki, 1999) and the΄΄Children΄s Rejection Sensitivity Questionnaire΄΄ (Downey, Lebolt, RincÃn& Freitas, 1998). The findings showed in total that children’ s loneliness and social dissatisfaction level is likely to be low, with the level of social dissatisfaction to be a bit higher. Moreover, children’ s level of rejection expectation with stress is likely to be high. In contrast, they have low grades of dislike and rejection expectation with anger. Furthermore the study has shown that the existence of learning disabilities predicts statistically significant the total of loneliness and social dissatisfaction. Finally, the existence of learning disabilitiesshows statistically significant predictions of rejection expectation with anger and the sense of dislike. Results of the research were interpreted within the framework of international research.
