Etymology in greek language - A teaching suggestion.
Summary:
The Greek language is a language which has been spoken for 4.000 years and written for 3.500 years. It is distinct for each richly vocabulary multiformity and it presents consistency in orthography, uniform etymology, word significance, vocabulary table. It is rich in derivatives and compound words.
This project aims to investigate the contribution of etymology to the spelling of primary school students so that they will be able to present texts with correct spelling. There were chosen 10 Greek words commonly used, but with spelling difficulty and the students worked on them: they created the family words, they formed the vocabulary tables, they explored the origin of the words, they looked for these words in proverbs and standard expressions. They searched in written and spoken language: in advertisements, news, book and newspaper texts brought by them into classroom. They had also practice in their spelling and meaning. After this application all the students, even the ones with dysorthographie, had acquired almost to a total degree the spelling of these words.
