Management of acute pain in emergency department
Summary:
Pain is the main cause of patient arrival in the Emergency Department (ED). Appears without racial discrimination, at all ages and in all nationalities. Pain management, however, has several problems, namely insufficient analgesia by doctors, and the treatment of pain is not expected from what patients hope. There is also opioid phobia by healthcare professionals, and the phenomenon of oligo-analgesia is seen.
Aim: The aim of the work was to study the way to treat and deal with acute pain in EDF and the factors that can influence its assessment and intensity.
Materials and methods: The study was studied by using the printout in a random sample of 100 patients in the ED at George Gennimatas Hospital to deal with acute pain in the patients.
Results: Only 61% of patients received an analgesic, while only 10% of the patients received an opioid. Many patients left with much more pain during the second count. The average standby time is 47.2 minutes. Patients with increased pain as well as men were more likely to receive analgesia.
Conclusion-proposals: Acute pain is undergoing treatment in the ED, this can be prevented. Pain reassessment, the use of protocols for the administration of analgesia, pain registration as the 5th vital point, and the specialized training of health professionals are measures that can eliminate oligoanalgesia.
