Summary:
The study analyses the issue of cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the dental office as well as the use of an automatic external defibrillator by dentists. The survey includes a nationwide research into the dentist's knowledge and experience
Emergency medical situations may occur at any time in the dental clinic and it is the dentist’s responsibility to be able to deal with them both to protect the patient's health and also for the legal responsibilities that this entails. The most important treatment of these urgent incidents involves proper and adequate oxygenation of the brain and heart. Therefore, the dentist should know theoretically and be able to correctly apply Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
The aim of the thesis is to investigate the theoretical and practical training of Greek dentists in CPR and the use of an automatic external defibrillator, their experience and their interest in their continuing education and training in this field.
In order to extend the role of dentists, experienced or not, to CPR and defibrillation, some changes should be made to the curriculum of dental schools, as well as tightening up the conditions for taking a diploma and starting a profession.
