This paper presents the methods used by telecommunication companies for specific
Human Resource Practices, which are the recruitment, selection and evaluation of staff.
Results of surveys conducted in telecommunications companies in the country
are also
presented after an interview with their respective departments.
The aim of this research is to present how modern Greek telecommunications
companies attract
and choose their staff
, the logic and the criteria
that count
the biggest
role in shapin
g their final choice. It also analyzes the methods by which companies
evaluate employee performance, under what frameworks and the purpose of the
techniques they use.
More specifically, in the second chapter is a theoretical approach of the operation of
Hu
man Resources an
d how it has evolved through these years
. Then, in the third and
fourth chapters there is a bibliographic analysis of the functions of attracting and
selecting candidates and evaluating staff. The last chapter presents the empirical
investi
gations carried out in two Greek telecommunication companies, which were
conducted through interviews with the relevant Human Resources departments. The
following methods are presented for the three fields analyzed at the theoretical level and
the similari
ties and differences between the two companies are highlighted.
Finally, the general conclusions of this work and the
suggestions that could be made for
future research are
listed.
