Volcanic activity in the world and in Europe: Surveillance-prevention and response systems
Summary:
The present review describes the volcanic explosions, the subsequent phenomena and their impact. The consequences have climatic, environmental, cultural, biological, technological, administrative, scientific and social aspects. The volcanic explosion includes phenomena of mudflows, pyroclastic currents, tephra and ash, lava and magma expansion etc, carrying toxic gases, mechanical pressures (under and on earth surface) in highest temperatures in the atmosphere. Among short-term effects, increase in mortality and morbidity of cardio-respiratory, burning injuries, accidents and long-term increase in parasitosis, cancer and even elephantiasis incidence, are observed. Nisyros and Thera islands are of high explosivity risk. Civil protection Secretariat is authorized to prepare authorities and population and manage the crisis of volcano explosions. The surveillance systems differ modestly in the technology but are surely adapted to the volcanic activity and explosivity, the type of volcanos to be managed.
