Primary school teachers' views on teaching writing and the assessment of written texts of third class students with specific learning disabilities
Summary:
The current study consists a compex effort to frame the writing process from both teachers’ and students’ point of view. One hundred twenty six teachers of primary schools completed an online questionnaire in order to investigate their views as far as the strategies on teaching writing is concerned. Twenty six students of typical development and with specific learning disabilities in the third class of primary schools, after writing a narrative text, they completed a questionnaire. Results indicate that on average teachers focus more often on spelling, punctuation and word level practices and less often on handwriting. Sentence and text level strategies as well as planning and revising are applied weekly. Teachers should emphasize more on the use of technical equipment and metacognitive strategies. Writtent texts of students with specific learning disabilities are poorest in most domains of writing (context, productivity, complexity, accuracy) but they do not report facing more difficulties rather than students of typical development.
