expectations of Greek educators from school counselors, in both primary and secondary school settings
Summary:
The purpose of this research is to identify the expectations of Greek educators from school
counselors, in both primary and secondary school settings. Our sample is 75 educators
currently teaching in primary or secondary schools. The educators participated by filling in a
questionnaire. The results of this analysis indicate that primary school educators consider the
social and emotional support that the counselor provides as most important, whilst secondary
school educators found the effective collaboration to be more crucial. Thus, the
implementation of counselling programs which align with the learning outcomes of each
educational stage, was considered to be of great importance by all participants. However, the
main differences between the educational stages appear to be both the preparation for the next
educational stage and the vocational guidance of students. Our research results present many similarities with relevant studies and offer a great insight into the expectations of Greek primary and secondary educators about the role of the school counselors
