Victims of Torture. Recognition, identification, rehabilitation.
Summary:
Background The percentage of torture victims among immigrants and refugees arriving in Greece is quite high. Therefore, their recognition, identification and rehabilitation procedures must be fully operational.
Objective To highlight the reasons why the rehabilitation and health care professionals are inadequate.
Method A bibliographic review was conducted on the term of torture and the methods of recognition, identification and rehabilitation of torture victims.
Results The recognition, identification and rehabilitation of torture victims should take place immediately after their entry into Greece. The identification and assistance provided to them is lagging behind, largely due to the large influx of immigrants and refugees in the country, as well as the inadequate education.
Conclusion It is necessary to have a legal framework on the prevention, recognition, identification and rehabilitation of torture victims.
