The effect of "Nordic Walking" intervetion program on the improvment of the physica condition and quality of life of the eldery
Summary:
The purpose of this research was to evaluate the impact of a nordic walking interventional program on uneven and flat ground including 20-week courses for people aged 60 - 90. The «Senior Fitness Test» and Bosco test were applied to evaluate the functional parameters. Quality of life was assesed with «Short-Form Questionnaire 36v2» whereas motivation to exercise using «Exercise Motivation Inventory 2», Body Mass Index and heart rate were recorded based on protocols. The results showed a significant effect of the nordic walking interventional exercise program on improving upper and lower limb muscle strength, aerobic resistance and agility between the two experimental groups and the control group. In the Bosco test, there was a statistically significant effect of the program on the improvement of the squat jump height of the experimental groups in comparison to the control group. Significant decrease was observed in physical health between the nordic walking team on an uneven surface compared to the group on flat ground and in the stimulating factors in exercise, exercise challenge, strength, endurance, as well as and agility. An important correlation was found between the Bosco test squat jump height and upper limb strength, aerobic resistance and agility. Additionally, significant correlations of functional parameters of «Senior Fitness Test» with Body Mass Index were observed. For the analysis of data questionnaires, mixed analysis of variance-Anova was performed and the Pearson coefficient was used to find correlations. The analysis of the component-factors that emerged from the questionnaires was carried out by the multivariate analysis of variance-Manova. Post-hoc analyzes were performed to find out which groups were different from each other and a Bonferroni correction took place. Significance level was defined as a<.05. The results of the research suggest that nordic walking is an activity that can be carried out either on uneven or flat ground with optimal functional adjustments for the elderly.
