Summary:
Being a parent is often accompanied by high levels of anxiety due to the difficulties, frustrations and challenges that she can face in everyday life. The advent of a disabled child can cause unexpected demands and challenges for parents, for whom they are often unprepared. The existence of a person with disabilities brings changes and long-lasting effects on the life of the whole family according to studies that have taken place and many of them show that parents of children with disabilities face higher levels of stress compared to the parents of children with typical development and the impact it has on the family is multidimensional, reciprocal, affects the whole and affects the relationships between family members.
The aim here is to examine the existence of a person with disabilities as a source of significant stress in the family and what impact they have on their health and quality of life. In this survey, 100 parents from the Attica region, who have a disabled member in their family, took part in the survey, responding to the relevant questionnaire. The results showed that parents do not have high levels of stress in their life compared to their gender, gender, diagnosis and age, nor do they seem to have an impact on their own health due to this stress. Also, our findings did not show that social support plays a significant role as a regulator of the stress and health of the participants.
