Summary:
‘’Fintech’’ is the marriage of financial services and information technology. This study investigates the effect of this rapidly increasing section of financial industry. We study the contagion effect of the Global Financial Crisis and the European Sovereign Debt Crisis in the fintech companies. This will be done by investigating the correlation of the returns between the fintech stocks and the correlation of the returns of the two popular indices the MSCI (Morgan Stanley Capital International) and VIX (Volatility Index) as sources of contagion. The results of the empirical analysis will confirm that the fintech companies have not been affected significantly by the Global Financial Crisis and the European Sovereign Debt Crisis.
