Summary:
Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the burnout of health professionals in the hospital of Hippocratio during the period of economic crisis.
Method and material: The research held by distributing a special tool - questionnaire, followed by the data analysis by the use of the quantitative method. The questionnaire consists of 3 sections on demographic and social characteristics, job factors and the Christine Maslach scale. 220 questionnaires were distributed to employees of all levels and categories and 178 collected. For the theoretical part, sources were drawn from various search engines such as Pubmed, Science direct, Google Scholar, Wiley Online Library, Scopus, Google Book Search and from Greek and foreign magazines.
Results: About burnout and for the emotional exhaustion factor a large percentage of the sample reported a high level, moderate to high level for the depersonalization factor and low for the Personal Accomplishment factor. Nurses shows the highest rates of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization as opposed to other categories of health professionals. Furthermore, the negative impact of the economic crisis on the quality of services is recorded.
Conclusions: Nowadays the working conditions which prevail have a negative impact on the quality of health services and contribute to the emergence of burnout. Finally, it is important to plan and implement interventions which they will be aimed at preventing and reversing the burnout.
