Summary:
The Master thesis studies the Human Resource Management System in the Armed Forces and focuses on the Hellenic Land Forces. In the first part, a historical survey of the Armed forces and the Hellenic Land Army is made. Then, the aim of the Armed Forces as a State Institution and its personnel training that occupies this serious organization is analysed.
The second part analyses the organizational and administrative composition of the Hellenic Land forces, thoroughly. Alongside, the institutional frameworks for the evaluation and promotion of all categories of executives in the next grades are studied. The grading capabilities for each category are separately recorded and the real criteria of the retirement are set up. In the final section, the transfer criteria and the institutional procedures followed are analysed in depth.
The third part explores the United States' Management system of Human Resource in the Armed Forces that is the most powerful. It analyzes the system of distributing officers in the career paths and the conditions of fulfilling the general career positions. Furthermore, this thesis states the sophisticated system of education that is used and the institutional planing framework accompanied with the implementing dispositions.
The last part analyzes the fundamental principles of human resource management and the implementation by the Hellenic Army. Initially, the talent management and job analysis are investigated. The next step that is the planning and forecasting of human resource is analyzed in detail; likewise the procedures of personnel selection and recruitment, as well. Then, the training system and professional development of executives is recorded. The institutional processes of career assessment and management are analysed. At same time, the ethical rules which are applied to organizations and the phenomenon of the voluntary and compulsory retirement of the executives are mentioned. Both the personnel’s safety and health are presented in workplaces.
The conclusion of this thesis is focused on the radical transition and the creation of a sophisticated Land Forces' management model. That model will fully revise the operating regulations and deep reforms. The above will be achieved through the introduction of talent management, rigorous evaluation, the personnel's recruitment and the upgrade of health, safety and career framework.
