Morphological Awareness and Spelling in the Arithmetic Adjectives and Nouns to Greek elementary school pupils
Summary:
The present study aims to study the degree of conquest of the morphological awareness of arithmetic adjectives and of the nouns of the Greek language in pupils who completed their studies in the last grade of elementary school. This study involved 80 students divided into two groups: 54 Greek pupils of the 6th grade and 26 bilingual students of the fifth grade with the second language the Greek language. In both groups, an evaluation criterion consisted of six activities, examining the level of morphological awareness of the conjucation, production and composition, as well as the spelling of the arithmetics adjectives and nouns, through criteria of formation / analysis and recognition and appreciation. The results of the research have shown that Greek students have gained a greater degree in the formation and recognition of conjucation, productive and complex types of arithmetic than bilingual students. There was no difference between the groups only in the activity of identifying and estimating conjucation suffixes related to arithmetics, in which both teams scored quite low. The final outcome formed after the completion of the data analysis and the interpretation of results is that both teams score several arithmetic deficits, since the general M.O. of Greek and pupils with L2 the Greek language was quite low, especially when identifying and estimating productive suffixes of both arithmetic adjectives and nouns.
